Senator and former foreign minister, Jorge Taiana, and Daniel Ricci, secretary general of FEDUN, also took part in the activity.
The Secretary of the Malvinas, Antarctica and South Atlantic, Daniel Filmus, participated on Thursday, July 1, in the closure of the training course “ Malvinas, Antarctica and South Atlantic: geopolitics, sovereignty and development in the 21st century”, organized by the Federation of University Teachers (FEDUN), which also had the support of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). This training course, which was developed in 10 meetings, was designed with the aim of continuing with training on this subject for teaching workers from all over Argentina.
As part of the closing ceremony of the training course, Filmus presented the progress made during last meeting of the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization, where the Argentine claim for the recovery of the full exercise of sovereignty in the Malvinas was discussed.
Among the main advances, the Secretary of the Malvinas, Antarctica and South Atlantic highlighted the request of the Secretary General of the United Nations for the United Kingdom give an answer to Argentina's claims about Malvinas, something that country never did.
Filmus also highlighted that the Committee had the intervention of all Latin American countries, who expressed their support for the Argentine claims, an unprecedented event of great unity for the region.
The Secretary of the Malvinas, Antarctica and South Atlantic stressed that many countries that historically were in doubt about the issue, also spoke out in favor of Argentina, a fact that adds to the position of China and Russia, permanent members of the UN.
Prominent specialists on these issues such as Jorge Taiana, Telma Luzzani, Facundo Rodríguez, Pedro Brieger, Natalia Tini, Guillermo Carmona, Alicia Castro, Pablo Fontana, Edgardo Esteban and Ernesto Alonso participated in the 10 training classes and contributed different approaches on Malvinas, Antarctica and the South Atlantic.
Filmus thanked those who participated in this training and FEDUN for carrying out initiatives that promote the issues related to Malvinas, Antarctica and the South Atlantic in the university agendas.
