Between May 22nd and June 5th this year, a White Helmets team was deployed to Mozambique so as to provide medical aid and train the local health staff at Xai Xai Provincial Hospital, located in Gaza province, in the southernmost part of the country.
The team was composed of one Argentine doctor with professional license accredited by the Mozambican authorities, and a Commission functionary holding a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, expert in logistics and with experience in water management. Besides providing medical services, the team coordinated the delivery of 1000 blankets, 92 boxes of water-purification tablets capable of potabilizing over 1.2 million gallons of water and a portable multi-parameter monitoring device.
Afterwards, between July 17th and August 2nd, Jorge Arias MD, member of the above mentioned White Helmets team, returned to Mozambique to coordinate an international task force of specialists that provided assistance both in the Xai Xai Provincial Hospital and the Majacanze Rural Hospital. They carried out 250 examinations, 90 echography sessions and 92 major surgeries without any complications, neither during nor after the procedure. In rural health outposts they carried out another 800 examinations and 450 echography sessions.
