The National Council of for Affairs Relative to the Malvinas Islands paid tribute to those who fought for our sovereignty in the archipelago

The National Council of for Affairs Relative to the Malvinas, South Georgias, and South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime and insular areas, created by Law 27,558, joins through a statement the heartfelt tribute that the Argentine people pay every April 2 to those who heroically fought for the recovery of the full exercise of Argentine sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands and other islands of the South Atlantic.

We pay homage to those who led down their lives in combat, to those who returned to the continent and bear in their bodies and minds the indelible testimony of having participated in the deed and to their families, especially those who suffered the loss of their loved ones.

We are convinced, as all the democratic governments of Argentina have maintained, that the only possible way for our country to recover the full exercise of sovereignty over the Malvinas, South Georgias, and South Sandwich Islands and the corresponding maritime and insular spaces is peace, bilateral dialogue, international law and diplomacy.

The members of this National Council express our deep commitment to continue working on the design and implementation of medium and long-term State policies. Policies that transcend the electoral calendars and that confirm that the Malvinas Cause, as stated in our National Constitution, has the consensus of all the social sectors and political parties of Argentina.

We also urge that, as demanded by the international community through UN Resolution 2065 (XX) and multiple declarations of multilateral organizations, the dialogue is resumed as soon as possible to advance in the negotiation of a peaceful and lasting solution to the controversy. At the same time, we demand strict compliance with Resolution 31/49, which urges the parties to refrain from taking unilateral actions in the disputed area. Moreover, and in accordance with the provisions of UN Resolution 2621 (XXV) and Resolution 41/11, we demand scrupulous respect for the South Atlantic as a Zone of Peace and Cooperation.

Our memory and tribute to those who fought for the recovery of the exercise of sovereignty commits us to continue working towards generating agreements and concrete actions so as to carry out policies that put an end to the rupture of the territorial integrity of the Argentine Republic in the South Atlantic, respecting the way of life of the inhabitants and in accordance with the principles of international law.
