From 25 November to 3 December, the 2017 edition of the Guadalajara Book Fair (FIL), which is considered to be one of the most important publishing events in the Spanish-speaking world, will be held in Mexico.
As every year since 2011, the Argentine Foreign Ministry, through the National Directorate for Cultural Affairs and on this occasion under the instructions of Ambassador Mauricio Wajnrot, will provide funds for the building, installation and design of the 243-m2 Argentine stand and will invite 4 Argentine authors that will be part of the Fair's official schedule.
The Argentine stand at the FIL will feature 56 publishing houses, including 18 university presses and publishers of books for children and young adults.
A special area of the stand will feature 1100 works by Argentine authors that have been translated into 43 languages by publishing houses of 48 countries within the framework of the SUR Translation Support Programme, implemented by the Argentine Foreign Ministry since 2011. On 27-29 November, round table meetings will be held to promote the SUR Programme with programmes from New Zealand, Finland, France, and Portugal. In addition, Argentina will participate in the International Seminar on Copyrights organized by FIL Guadalajara. The stand will also feature an area dedicated to internationally recognized Argentine female authors.
As a major part of Argentina's participation, the Argentine Delegation will include Sergio Olguín, Paula Bombara, Guillermo Martínez, and Federico Falco, who will participate in activities such as "A Tribute to Abelardo Castillo", "Latinoamérica Viva", "Science and literature", "Maths and Literature", and "Echoes of FIL", among others.
