Presentation before the Federal Council of Education of the Bicontinental Map that will be sent to all schools across the country

The Minister of Education of the Nation, Nicolás Trotta, together with the Secretary of Malvinas, Antarctica and South Atlantic of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Daniel Filmus, presented before the Federal Council of Education (CFE) the Bicontinental Map of Argentina that will be distributed to all the schools across the country.

The presentation took place during the 101st assembly of the CFE with the presence of the ministers of the 24 jurisdictions of the country, in a meeting that was held by videoconference.

The Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated in the meeting to announce the printing of 50,000 copies of the new Bicontinental and Insular Map of Argentina. For his part, the Minister of Education stated that the maps would be distributed to all the schools across the country accompanied by a teacher-training booklet.

Filmus highlighted that “the Argentine Continental Shelf covers twice the size of continental Argentina. This means our territory is twice as large on the seafloor than on the continent. For this reason, and to reaffirm our sovereignty over the entire national territory, it is important to institutionalize the vision of Argentina in its whole extension and on the enormous wealth that belongs to all Argentines”.

In this sense, the Secretary said that “when observing the Continental Shelf that surrounds the Malvinas Islands, one becomes aware that 2.5 million square meters are in dispute with the United Kingdom”.

The new Bicontinental Map of Argentina extends from La Quiaca to Antarctica and incorporates the definitive demarcation of the outer limit of the Argentine Continental Shelf beyond 200 nautical miles. The new demarcation was approved by Law 27,757, voted unanimously in 2020 in the National Congress, in line with the corresponding United Nations resolutions.
