Current context and prospects for the global economy

Friday, 28 June 2024

This report presents the main global economic trends for this year and the medium term, and has been prepared based on projections, reports and analyses produced by different international and regional organisations, research centres, universities and public institutions.

The new publication includes data on the global economy, trade, finance, demographics, health and food issues. In addition, the structural strengths and capabilities of Latin America, and Argentina in particular, are highlighted in the projected scenarios.

In the short term, the main trends observed are: slowing economic growth; interest rates, commodity prices and inflation levels still high, although with a downward trend; trade instability and fragmentation; and a situation of uncertainty, fuelled by the main armed conflicts and extreme weather events.

The slowdown in global economic growth and trade is expected to continue towards 2030. The challenges of population ageing and uneven population growth, and the energy transition and artificial intelligence agendas will become relevant. In geopolitical terms, there would be a greater fragmentation of relations which would affect trade flows.
