New reports on the African pharmaceutical market

Wednesday, 12 June 2024

We present two reports that analyse the access opportunities for the Argentine export supply in the market of human and veterinary pharmaceutical products in Africa.

The African pharmaceutical market is a small but growing sector and is characterised by a high dependence on the imports of medicines and vaccines, both for human and animal medicine.

The increased healthcare capacity and the expanding urban population with access to social security and health insurance systems on the African continent are creating a favourable business environment for the demand for pharmaceuticals, especially in the East and West African regions.

These factors entail, on the one hand, the need for African countries to diversify their sources of supply, and, on the other, to move forward with the local development of vaccine and medicine manufacturing, along with improved access to equipment, technologies and services related to their production, which could represent opportunities to be served by our exportable offer in different links of the value chain.

Regarding the veterinary sector, the opportunities arise from the limitations and productive needs of the African livestock market and food safety objectives, which imply improving animal health. This creates niches for our export supply of veterinary products, technological packages and services.

To provide a first approach to this challenging market, two reports prepared by the CEI are presented, one on the pharmaceutical market and another on the veterinary pharmaceutical market, which analyse the economic and consumption prospects of medicines and vaccines on the African continent.

Please note that only the executive summary is in English. The full report is available in Spanish.
