Cambodia is the eighth largest economy in ASEAN. It is the fastest growing country among emerging and developing economies in Asia. Although it is a small market, concentrated mainly in two cities, the opportunities for imported products are significant, as it is not yet saturated.
This market depends on imports of food and agricultural products, with projections of higher consumption by the local middle class sectors thanks to the improvement of their incomes. These factors generate very good opportunities in the food and agricultural product sector for the exports of Argentine premium quality packaged products, including meats, fruits and vegetables, dairy products and inputs for the food industry.
Likewise, there are trade opportunities for our exportable supply in the agribusiness sector, within the framework of Cambodian public policies aimed at improving agriculture and livestock farming, which will mean the incorporation of technologies and services. In particular, the areas of livestock genetic improvement; improvement of animal health and feeding; construction of livestock facilities; intelligent agriculture (ICT4Ag); agricultural mechanisation and post-harvest processing machinery and equipment; and human resources training services are highlighted.
This report summarises these consumption prospects and the trade opportunities to be explored in the Cambodian market, and adds to the series of studies for Asian and African markets published by the CEI.
