Effects of private standards on agri-food trade

This paper briefly exposes the reasons that gave rise to the emergence of standards of food safety and quality and the impact attributed to them. It also discusses the margin of responsibility that governments might or might not have regarding the fact that these standards do not impede access to those markets.
