Non-agricultural products: Barriers to imports and imbalances in WTO negotiations

This article describes the unlevel playing field in the reduction of tariffs in non-agricultural trade, which means that significant market access barriers persist. Negotiations at the Doha Round are key to reducing these distortions. Trade in non-agricultural products, WTO members’ protective measures, negotiations on tariff and non-tariff barriers are analysed and compared with measures and negotiations in the agricultural sector.
