The year when the Malvinas Cause became a State policy again

It has been a year since President Alberto Fernández promised to place the claim for the recovery of the effective exercise of sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands as one of the priorities of his administration. In his inauguration speech before the Parliamentary Assembly, he affirmed that there was no place for colonialism in the 21st century and he addressed the issue of sovereignty from a double perspective. On the one hand, from the fulfillment of the Constitutional Clause that raises the imprescriptibility of the claim that has been sustained by our country for 187 years. On the other, from a comprehensive perspective, which promotes the South Atlantic and Antarctic areas as an economic and social development strategy, looking to the future from the enormous wealth that Argentina has in that region in terms of fishing, hydrocarbons, minerals and biodiversity.

Strong support from MERCOSUR to Argentina on the Malvinas Question and its defense of natural resources
The presidents of the countries of MERCOSUR and the Associate States expressed a strong support for Argentina's sovereignty claim over the Malvinas Islands, South Georgias and South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime areas and recognized the right of our country to “take legal action” against “unauthorized activities” of “exploitation of natural resources” in the archipelago area, in the framework of the 57th Summit of Heads of State, which was held by videoconference and in which Uruguay passed the Pro Tempore Presidency to Argentina.

The National Identity Document will have the new bicontinental map of Argentina
The National Minister of the Interior, Eduardo de Pedro, and the Secretary of Malvinas, Antarctica and South Atlantic of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Daniel Filmus, announced at the Casa Rosada that the National Identity Document (DNI) will have the new bicontinental and insular map of Argentina to highlight the importance of the country's sovereignty.

“Mar Argentino”, a new Fisheries and Oceanographic Research Vessel
The reception ceremony of the new vessel “Mar Argentino” (which translates as “Argentine Sea”) was carried out last November 25 on the port of the city of Mar del Plata. The ship was acquired by the National Institute for Fisheries Research and Development (INIDEP) for fisheries and oceanographic research.

Launch of the Summer Antarctic Campaign 2020-2021 under strict sanitary protocols
The Chief of Staff, Santiago Cafiero, together with the Minister of Defense, Agustín Rossi, the Minister of Foreign Relations, Felipe Solá and the Secretary of Malvinas, Antarctica and South Atlantic, Daniel Filmus, headed the launching ceremony of the 117th Summer Antarctic Campaign (SAC) 2020-2021 at the naval station of the City of Buenos Aires. This year Argentina begins its SAC under strict sanitary protocols in order to make sure that the white continent remains free of COVID-19.

The Bicontinental Map of the Argentine Republic will reach all the schools across the country

The Mercosur Parliament ratified its support for the sovereign rights of Argentina over the Malvinas and condemned the militarization of the South Atlantic
In the framework of its 72nd Ordinary Session, the Mercosur Parliament (Parlasur) adopted on December 14th a new declaration in “support of the sovereign rights of Argentina over the Malvinas, South Georgias and South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime areas that are part of its national territory”.

Banking unions from all over America committed to the Malvinas Cause
Video. The 5th Regional Conference of the Finance Section of the Union Network International (UNI) declared its support for the legitimate claim of the people and the government of the Argentine Republic for the recovery of the exercise of sovereignty over the Malvinas, South Georgias and South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime areas. In addition, it requested that United Nations General Assembly Resolutions 2065 and 31/49 be complied with.
